Friday, what a wonderful day! Just knowing that it’s Friday and your day is done makes every person ecstatic. Now they can relax, enjoy a nice cold brew and watch whatever they want to on the television. In my case, however, I drove home to see my Dad (it’s his birthday today), and also to drop of my loan check that I received from the school, in other words, my only source of income at the moment.
Knowing that during the weekend I will be spending time with the family, I have dedicated the next 3 ½ hours of my life to Xbox. During the week, when I’m not able to play, due to homework, I have withdrawals. The weekend cures everything (except a massive hangover). All I really know is that sitting at my house, on my couch, is glorious! Why? Because I have some hot pockets keeping me company, people that know me, wouldn’t be surprised if they saw me on the street, I would have some type of food substance along-side me.
I would like to give a shout out to “Fighting with Shadows”, they kept me company while I was driving home. Listening to them also makes me reminisce about the “olden days” (aka high school), where if we had an idea, we would film it. Capturing everything we did while over at a friends house.
Now that I’m done rambling on, I will get to my subject of the day. Soccer. I understand that soccer is played everywhere in the world and is MASSIVE over in Europe, but here in America, balls aren’t meant to be kicked. They’re either made to be shot, or thrown, or caught. I like soccer....once every four years, they should keep it that way. It’s the only way that the U.S. realizes that soccer isn’t an American pastime (unlike the hot dog). I was telling a friend of mine, that I would be blogging about soccer, and how much I dislike the sport, but still trying to bull of the bi-partisan feel. He told me one part that he particularly did not like about the game. He said that he hated that they make it seem like such a contact sport, but really it’s not, that’s what rugby is for. That’s real manly stuff (minus the short shorts). He hated that whenever someone would get pushed, they would act like a Mack truck hit them, lie on the ground, holding their foot like it’s caught in a bear trap, crying for a call.
I should clarify that I do like soccer, but only to a point, and only for so long. Watching a game in college, when you’re at said event, is much less exciting (until the last 4 minutes) because there aren’t other channels to flip to as their would be if you were watching it in the comfort of your home. You don’t have to hear the annoying horns (vuvuzelas), they‘re brutal! Another thing is, when you’re sitting at home, you don’t have to watch it when it gets boring. I had to be a ball boy for some games, it was fun, but having to do a girls and a boys game did get to be a little long. Let’s just say that soccer is a game of superior patience and is somewhat like a chess game. Slowly moving the ball into a spot to put the goalie into checkmate.
My last, and final words for the day, I did listen to the State of the Union address by President Obama. I liked what he was saying, most of it made sense, but where it gets fuzzy is when he says he want’s to do all this expanding, but cut costs at the same time. General math says that doing that is impossible. Plus, I like the words, but actions speak louder. Confusing…. Until next time, remember to be sure to wash your hands when you are done using the restroom facilities.
